This is how Spont Atlas (www.spont.ai) handles what you put into it. Spont is in private beta, and this page says what the service actually does today. If that changes, we'll update this page and its date.

What you add

  • Topics: the people, places, films, books and other things you keep.
  • Posts: facts about a topic, in your own words.
  • Links, which we fetch and read so they can be filed on the right topic.
  • Photos and documents you upload.
  • Voice: what you say is written down as text. The recording itself is not kept.
  • Replies you write on posts.
  • Searches and questions. These are kept, with their answers, in your Recent.

Signing in

You sign in with Google. Spont gets your name, email address and profile photo from Google, and nothing else. Your email address isn't shown on your profile. We use it to sign you in, to let people invite you, and to email you about your account and invitations.

Who can see your posts

Each post has its own audience. You pick it when you post, and you can change it later:

  • Only me: the default.
  • Specific people or groups you choose.
  • Peers: your mutual contacts, meaning people who have you as a contact and whom you have back.
  • Public: anyone who visits your profile.

Topics link by tag. If you and a peer both have a topic with the same tag, each of you automatically sees the other's posts under that tag, but only the posts you're each allowed to see. Either of you can unlink the other for a tag at any time.

Groups need your yes. Nobody can put you in their group without your acceptance. When you accept, you become peers with the group's members.

You're told when you're found. When someone's search or question turns up posts of yours they're allowed to see, you get a notification. It shows who it was and the words they searched. The same works the other way: when your search turns up someone else's posts, they're told what you searched.

AI

Spont uses AI to sort your posts into topics, read links and documents, answer questions, write down what you say, and make cover pictures for topics. To do that, the relevant text and files are sent to AI providers. Today that is mainly OpenAI. Some parts of Spont also use Anthropic (Claude) and Google (Gemini).

We use these providers through their APIs and under their API terms. Spont doesn't use your content to train models of its own. AI can get things wrong, so check what it files and answers.

Where your data is kept

  • Vercel runs the app and stores uploaded files.
  • Neon hosts the Postgres database that holds your account, topics, posts and the rest.
  • Resend sends our emails, such as invitations.
  • Google handles sign-in.

Deleting and downloading

You can delete any post, topic or file, or your whole account. Deleting your account removes your data and the files you stored, including the replies you wrote on other people's posts.

Copies other people already hold stay with them. For example, an answer someone saved in their Recent that quoted one of your posts isn't removed.

You can download your data from Settings.
